Romerias = Pilgrimage


In the Canary Islands, the pilgrimages are popular traditional festivals . The considered the oldest of the island is held in honor of the Virgen del Socorro (Socorro Pilgrimage), in the town of Guimar Tenerife. Other pilgrimages of great tradition in the Canary Islands are San Isidro (La Orotava), the Pilgrimage of San Benito Abad (La Laguna), the Virgen de Candelaria (Patrona de Canarias) and Tegueste held in honor of St. Marcos, all in Tenerife. In Teror (Gran Canaria) notes, dedicated to the Virgen del Pino. Five years are also a pilgrimage place for the lustral Bajada de la Virgen de las Nieves (La Palma) and, on the island of El Hierro, a similar one in honor of the Virgen de los Reyes.
